An inspiring day out

I went out for a trip to Holt last Monday. It was such a hot day (record temperatures!) but the Norfolk countryside looked stunning in the summer sun.

I was going to visit The Gallery in Holt and see Kieron Williamson’s work because he’s an example of a local artist who’s been able to turn their passion into their career!

On the way, I dropped into a local vetinary practice that has asked to display my work in their waiting room and consultation rooms. It’s a great opportunity and I’m really looking forward to creating some lovely pictures for them!

Kieron’s work of the Norfolk countryside was very inspiring, especially the way he captured the light and conveyed detail in the scenes often without painting every detail – something I would like to get better at with my oil painting! We got to meet him and asked a few questions. Interestingly, he hasn’t gone to art college but did get some personal tuition from artists when he was very young. He also takes his own photos which is something I want to do more of for original drawings.

After a much needed milkshake from Byfords I visited Picturecraft of Holt to get some advice on framing. I’m wondering about offering mounts as part of my commissions to make it easier for clients to frame them when they arrive. I also need to invest in some good quality frames to display my work at the vets. So they were really friendly and helpful and gave me some valuable advice. Still more to learn but it was a great start!

Right now I’m on holiday for a week, staying with some family, but am still keeping in touch with existing and new clients. Really looking forward to getting back and starting the Oystercatchers!

Update 22nd May 2023: It’s encouraging to look back at these early posts and see how much my pet portrait business has grown over the last few months. Also, here is the finished Oustercatcher artwork:
